There is a story in “Shani Mahatmya”. Once Saturn went to Jupiter to warn him of the upcoming Sadhesati and requested Jupiter to allow Saturn going at it. Jupiter would not agree easily but after certain negotiations, both parties agreed on “sawa prahar” time period. Sawa stands for 1 and a quarter and prahar is the eighth division of a traditional Hindu day.
Although Jupiter allowed very little time for Saturn to do something yet Saturn had to show its effects.
During this reduced Sadhesati event, Jupiter was caught red handed with the heads of the prince. Those heads were actually musk melons but appeared like the heads of the king's sons. Jupiter was arrested in no time and presented before the king.
The situation developed such that it almost took Jupiter to death at the hands of the king who had announced a death sentence for the holiest planet we know.
Jupiter was trapped for no reason. He understood he was going through Saturn's time. He requested the king to wait until that time (of Saturn) was over. As soon as that time ended, the princes returned back and everything started getting normal.
When Jupiter asked Saturn why all this happened to him, Saturn replied you had the ego developed.
This is not just a story but highlights some very interesting facts about Jupiter Saturn relationship. Saturn is a planet that does not like much of ego. May be this is the reason why Saturn is an enemy of Mars and Sun while neither Mars nor Sun consider Saturn an enemy.
Sadhesati is when Saturn is a house behind, with or a house ahead of the planet considered which usually is Moon. This period lasts for seven and a half years hence called Sadhesati. There is a never ending debate on considering Sadhesati for ascendant, Sun ascendant, karaka ascendant etc. but that will be a point of discussion in some other article.
If Saturn requested Jupiter to allow Sadhesati would that mean the same thing? Was Saturn within that specified range of Sadhesati. Does that mean if Jupiter in a horoscope combines with Saturn or Jupiter is in twelfth or second house from Saturn, there would be problems to Jupiter?
According to this story, there definitely should be some problem to the Jupiter while Saturn would certainly benefit. He got Jupiter’s blessings in the end. Does that mean, without the blessings of Saturn Jupiter would not be as effective as it should be. May be yes!
