अब मोहि भा भरोस हनुमंता। बिनु हरि कृपा मिलहिं नहीं संता॥
Vibheeshan told Hanuman that without the grace of God one can not meet the divine figures. It is Meru Trayodashi today and I feel blessed to have visited Kapaleeshvarar Temple just at the right time. For two years I have been in Chennai but never got a chance to attend such a divine event. Special Abhisheka was being performed for Lord Shiva & Nandi and the temple (despite lot of space) was fully crowded for this special occasion today.
The passage around the temple (within the premises) is the route normally followed taking the Deva Murti (God's Idol). At the same time on a loud speaker, some Tamil songs were being played and around 30-35 people were following the Murti (idol) chanting hymns from the Vedas.
The pronunciation was very clear, their voices were full of spiritual energy and it was indeed a delightful experience to walk with that group while they were chanting mantras. Interestingly, it was not only the priests but some of the devotees (in pant/shirt) too were chanting in the same rhythm.
On reaching the Veda Mandapa the group chanting stopped with Shanti Mantras but there was a certain group of Brahmins who sat on the ground and started chanting mantras from Sama Veda (I can guess by the way they were chanting).
There was no rush, no conduct of misbehavior despite such huge gathering and this is one of the qualities of Chennai people!
