Have you ever noticed how much importance do the companies give to their logos? In one of the automobile manufacturing units I was told how much care they took in ensuring that the logo was best placed on the vehicle. They made sure that it should be easy to view, with no spots, and not even a minor scratch is tolerable as it represents the organization. Passing by the large corporate buildings one can easily notice organizations using just their logo on top of the buildings and not their entire portfolios. Logo takes least space to let the people instantly recognize the organization. Organizations know this and that is why they give very much importance to their logos. If you are feeling hungry while driving in an unknown city, you can easily recognize the kind of food that you can get by just seeing the symbol of that particular restaurant (or fast food chain). In several movies they just show the logos and most people can recognize in no time what brand the actor is using in the movie. Organizations put lots of efforts in making a logo and then branding it. They say it is professionalism. By having a logo you look more professional. Some people might not be aware of the logo but still that would be captured in their subconscious. They would get a picture of something, something that they could like discussing in future. Don’t you think this is very similar to idol worship system followed in Hinduism where they have different idols representing different Gods with unique qualities? The ultimate is formless but the first step is through the idol. Many people won’t enter a store without a name (no matter how good the quality is) and might not get the treasure that was waiting inside for them but they will enter a store by seeing a particular brand name on it because they are looking for the requirements and features suitable to them. If you ask them do the logos speak, they would say, “Yes” but if you ask them do the Hindu idols speak, some people would considered it as superstition. Recently a very famous yoga guru was saying on television that idol worship is useless as the idols won’t speak. But just like logos, idols also speak for those who believe in them. |
