The story is: In the war against Ravana, Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama was critically struck by Meghnad’s Shaktibaan. In order to save his life it was necessary to bring the Sanjeevani booti (herb) from Dronagiri Hill in the Himalayas before Sunrise. Pavanputra Hanuman took this responsibility and went to the Himalayas but failed to recognize the exact herb. Given the short span of time, he decided to chop off that part of mountain so that Lakshman could be helped in time. The community which resided in that area did not like this act of Hanuman as they were devotees of that part of the mountain. As a result, they started hating Hanuman. It is said that an old lady guided Hanuman through the way to Dronagiri and for the same reason; women do not actively participate in the worship of this hill. (Source) It appears from some websites that there is still no one in that village worshiping Hanuman. According to dailybhaskar.com “Even if a resident of this place takes the name of Lord Hanuman by mistake, he is thrown out of the society”. Rajasthan Patrika reports that Hanuman ji is still not worshipped in this village. Same thing can be noted at ajabgajab.com. However if you visit the websites joshimath.net, dreammountain.net, and uttarakhandguide.com, of you will find that: now that the mountain is full of herbs, the people have started worshiping Hanuman ji in the same way as many others do. It was the earlier communities that did not respect Hanuman ji and now there are no issues. Sometimes the Internet does not give clear answers!
